President of Singapore Mr. Tony Tan: Government pledge to build a better Singapore

In the upcoming celebration of the golden jubilee of Singapore’s foundation. Government pledge to take the future challenge together with the people, create more opportunities to help realize the potential of each of Singaporeans, strengthening social safety, support the old and sick people. Allow people to have sufficient resources to deal with retirement life and improvement of living environment, create a better home.

According to 17 of May Singapore’s Zaobao report, President of Singapore Mr. Tony Tan presided over the opening ceremony of the second session of the 12th Congress, read the government policy objective on behalf of Singapore’s government and said that: “Although Singapore has independently nearly half a century, but it is a young country. Singaporean should learn from ancestor, with the intestinal fortitude and spirit of hard work to build the future Singapore”.

Country founding policy should change accordingly to the changing of major environment. We have listened a lot of comments in the ‘Our Singapore Conversation’, will transfer to a substantive matter, planning for a new orientation.

Mr. Tony Tan reiterate last night, local education system must remain open and provide more opportunities to learn and to succeed for all citizen, while training their social value. Singapore’s government realized the school competes sharply and will further improve the primary one registration and PSLE and other system. Other than that, self-criticism regarding the polytechnics and Institute of Technical Education learning mode, and increasing university’s quota.

Singapore government adhere to build a tolerance society, let people from different class, particularly low-income and vulnerable group enjoyed the success of country. Government is committed that Singapore’s property is stay at an affordable level, assist low-income familiar to prepare for their retirement life by own their own HDB flat. Besides that, The Government also ensure that people can enjoy affordable and quality health care service. Be confronted with aging society, the Singapore government will improve provident fund deposit and central provident fund life program, and expand the way people cash out money through property.

Mr. Tony Tan also told parliamentarians, invited business and political representative and also students on spot, over the next decade or even longer, government spending will increase, to ensure sustainable social spending,as well as balance of payment. He said: "Government spending does not in itself create a richer, better and happier society which still need to work with communities and individuals to actively participate."

Mr. Tan hope Singaporeans with different races, religions and background can stay harmony, and open-minded to accept new immigrants. The Singapore Government will make good use of high-technology and innovation sustainably, enhance the quality of the people life through ‘Wisdom Country’.

Singapore is a political openness and pluralistic country. Mr. Tan reminded that Singapore cant taken the populist style, but continue take on the challenge, launched constructive debate in different fields and sector. “These debate sometimes cause a passionate, but we didn’t let divergence of views to disrupt our country but used it to pursue a good future”.

Facing with global economic restructuring and changing of Singapore social structure, the Singapore’s policy has made a significant rectification over the past decade. For example: introduction of community care and employment incentive programs to take care of the vulnerable and low-income workers, intensified construction of housing and public transport, implementation to maintain Singapore’s core population, marriage and planned parenthood.

In the end of speech, Mr. Tan said: "As we enter the 50th anniversary of independence, let us re-sworn to build a better and brighter in Singapore." called on Singaporeans to continue to uphold the oath of faith.
