Dewan Negara: Government To Consider Reviewing Housing Allowance For Civil Servants Next Year
Date:2014/12/21
KUALA LUMPUR -- The government will consider reviewing the housing allowance (ITP) for civil servants next year as the last time it was reviewed was in 2005.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the government cared about the welfare of civil servants and reviewed their salaries and allowances from time and time in tandem with the cost of living.
"Next year, the government will consider a review of the ITP rates in relation to the current cost of living. However, it is subject to the government's financial capacity," he said in the Dewan Negara, here, Thursday.
He was replying to a question from Senator Datuk Yahaya Mat Ghani on any plans by the government to raise the housing allowance of civil servants.
Shahidan said the ITP rates were determined by the service grades of civil servants who were not living in government quarters or houses rented by the government.
The last review of the ITP was conducted on Jan 1, 2005.
